About Windshield Estimate

Windshield Estimate is a free quote tool that helps drivers see typical windshield replacement pricing in their area before they ever pick up the phone. We're not an auto-glass shop. We connect drivers with local shops in the KC metro that actually perform the work.

Why we exist

Most drivers calling around for windshield quotes get one of two experiences: a number guessed by whoever answers the phone, or a bait-and-switch where the "$200" quote becomes $600 once the technician sees the vehicle. Both waste time. We built a pricing tool driven by your actual VIN, glass type, and damage so the range you see online matches the bill you pay.

How the estimate is built

Quotes on this site are powered by MarketRange™, our KC-metro pricing model. MarketRange draws on four categories of data for your specific vehicle:

  • Real distributor wholesale costs — what local shops actually pay for your windshield.
  • Vehicle complexity scoring — trim, ADAS sensors, HUD glass, acoustic / heated layers.
  • Regional KC-metro labor + overhead — install time, urethane, calibration, mobile service.
  • Crowd-sourced quote signals — real driver quotes used to validate the model, not drive it.

Wholesale-cost data is refreshed on a rolling basis as KC-metro distributors update their pricing. The model doesn't grade the shop's quote against ours and doesn't try to enforce a price — the shop performing the work sets the final number. MarketRange exists so you have a realistic ballpark before you call. Full methodology →

How we make money

Partner shops pay us when a lead they receive turns into a booking. We do not charge drivers anything to use the estimator, and there is no obligation to book. We do not mark up the shop's quote — the shop sets the final price, not us.

Because we are paid only when leads convert, we have a strong incentive to send shops good leads: real drivers with real damage, accurate vehicle info, and clear intent. The estimator's VIN decode and validation rules are designed for that.

How we choose partner shops

Every shop accepted into our network goes through a screening pass: business license verification, insurance certificate review, and a check for an active warranty policy on glass and labor. Our standing rules: shops with active license suspensions don't make it in, and any shop whose running average drops below 4 stars across at least 10 customer reviews gets paused. See how we vet shops.

We match you with multiple vetted KC-metro shops, and you pick one. We're expanding the network deliberately — quality first, scale second. Every new operator clears the same screening before joining.

Where we work

We launched in the Kansas City metro because we know the market firsthand. The cities we cover are listed on the by-city page, with neighborhood-level ZIP coverage. As we sign operators in additional regions, we expand coverage city by city.

Owner-operated, independent

Windshield Estimate is independent — not part of a national chain, not owned by an insurer, not white-labeled for any single shop. The aggregator brand matters: drivers get one neutral place to compare local shops without each shop trying to bias the result.
